Gallery: Out of the Ordinary
The joy of being an artist is being able to bring a vision into reality so that others can experience it too. These are all works that came about from dreams and spur of the moment thoughts that would not be ignored.
In the Spring of 2010, CMA held a challenge with the theme of “TIME” . My partner, Bruce, and I co-created an entry called, Mrs. Weasley’s Clock: The Rhoades Version
The clock that JK Rowling created for Mrs. Weasley in the Harry Potter books embodies the movement of time and how we utilize it to track the safety and well-being o four loved ones. This clock represents not only our passion for a wonderful series of books but also our love for one another as a family throughout time.

Throne for the Queen
The estate sale chair I found for $1 was adopted by my studio cat. She likes to sit in the sun while I work, so I thought I would spruce it up a bit. If she sat still, I would probably mosaic her too!

Pinned

I Am What I Eat
Yep. Cat chow tesserae. Kind of cool how it looks a bit like an Irish sweater?!
The Sacred Buck
This piece was one of the things that I flatly rejected when my mind first suggested it. I adore animals, respect living creatures and initially it seemed very contrary to the way I live my life. Placing glass on the skull of a creature who had once graced the planet held zero appeal. The buck in my dream persisted to the extent that a skull came across my path at a garage sale. Who the heck sells a deer skull at their garage sale? As I worked on it, the project took on a shamanic quality that I can only compare it to the penetrating looks of seals and the deep conversations that I have with them on Sunday mornings.
Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
Sometimes it takes a lot of eyes on the prize to achieve your dream. Speak your truth. Share it with others. You never know when the next person to cross your path will be the one to help you make a connection.
The Cereal Killer
My daughter’s Halloween costume this year. Fruit loops were the obvious choice!
Bling Bling Trinket Box
Inspired by Laurel Skye’s book, Mosaic Renaisssance, I tried my hand at a 3-d box.

Gary the Snail
Sponge Bob celebrated something like his zillionth episode this year so I created my version of Gary the Snail to celebrate. Gary lives at Cosmic Cottage and is the official greeter.
The Grotto of the Mermaid
This piece was created for the Shrines & Reliquaries show at the Corvallis Art Center. Oh the appeal of transforming a plain box into something sparkly and interesting. I could seriously be hooked on shrines for awhile!
Diagnosis: Lepidotris stomachus (Butterflies of the Stomach)
There’s really no need to say why Petra the Anatomy Mannequin ended up here. Bit odd.
My oldest daughter, Sara, turned her Grandfather’s banjo into mosaic art! Stars aligned and she found sheet music that reads, In the evening by the moonlight, you could hear their voices singing. In the evening by the moonlight, you could hear the banjos ringing. Clever girl!
